BG’s Positively Speaking

The “Edge” In Life

As we watch athletes around the world train and get ready for the Olympics in Paris, Can you guess what all the participants have in common? It has nothing to do with their nationality, their spiritual beliefs, or their sexual preferences. Every one of them, athletes, trainers, coaches, and the team managers who support them, all have it. They ALL have a dream.

The athletes dream of winning a gold medal, of standing in the centre of that podium as their nation’s flag is raised and their national anthem played. That’s the stuff of dreams. That’s what motivates them through hours and hours of training, self-discipline, aching bodies, and disappointments. From an early age, most Olympic athletes subject themselves to a regime in the pursuit of excellence that few can comprehend. At an early age, they give up many of the “fun” things that others think of as usual so that they can hone their skills and physical abilities. Often, the only thing that keeps them going is the DREAM, the persistent call from inside them that steers them toward realizing that dream. The trainers, coaches, and support teams share that dream and assist the athletes in developing their skills and the “edge” needed to reach their goals.

We all have dreams of things we would like to achieve, whether in work or personal life. The only way to achieve these dreams is to keep them in front of you and work toward them each and every day. You must be prepared to make the sacrifices needed to develop the “edge,” and then, little by little, bit by bit, you will see your dreams materialize.

You Will Have Found Your “Edge” In Life

Breakdown

A man is transporting a coffin when his car breaks down. He pulls over, and after messing about with the engine trying to fix it, covering himself in oils and grime, he calls for a mechanic; they tell him they can come in just under an hour to assess the situation.

Dismayed, he calls his boss to let him know what happened. His boss informs him that the delivery destination is simply up the road and asks him to carry the coffin the rest of the way. Upset but recognizing that he has nothing better to do, he picks up the coffin and starts dragging it up the road. A police officer sees this and approaches him, asking, “What are you doing with that coffin? Where are you going?”. Already upset with the situation, the man responds, “I didn’t like where they buried me, so I’m moving!”
