When In Doubt …!
When writers and speakers address having a positive attitude, they talk about eliminating doubt from our thoughts. At the same time, little, if anything, is said about how to eliminate doubt. Resulting in many people pushing their doubts down and ignoring them. In reality, our concern should be about gaining control of our doubts. We need to take control of doubt before we can eliminate it.
As a small child learning to read, I remember that whenever I could not recognize a word, my mother would say, “Sound it out .” Then, after sounding it out, she would say the word to me so I could hear how the individual letters went together. It was the same process when I couldn’t pronounce a word; she would say, “Sound it out. So it is with our doubts that we need to “Pull them out and examine them. We should resist the temptation to repress them, to ignore them. Instead, we should let them rise so that we can review them. By analyzing and dissecting our doubts, we can gain control over them. Uncontrolled doubt can lead to fears that are not based on reality; if we let them, they can take control of everything we do.
Doubting is a normal human feeling; everyone has doubts, and we tend to question many things in life. This confirms that doubt plays a specific role in our life. That is to be the “little yellow light” of our subconscious mind. Cautioning us to proceed with care, take a closer look at what we are contemplating, and double-check our facts and figures. A police officer pulls over this guy who’s been weaving in and out of the lanes. He goes to the guy’s window and says, “Sir, I need you to blow into this breathalyzer tube.” The man says, “Sorry, officer, I can’t do that. I am an asthmatic. If I do that, I’ll have a bad asthma attack.” “OK, fine. I need you to come down to the station to give a blood sample.” “I can’t do that either. I am a hemophiliac. If I do that, I’ll bleed to death.” “Well, then, we need a urine sample.” “I’m sorry, officer, I can’t do that either. I am also a diabetic. If I do that, I’ll get really low blood sugar.” “All right, I need you to come out here and walk this white line.”

The CBC reported that ultra-marathoner Dave Proctor, 41, set a cross-Canada speed record on July 21 when he arrived in Victoria, British Columbia. Proctor, of Okotoks, Alberta, set out from St. John’s, Newfoundland, 67 1/2 days earlier, running an average of 66 miles per day. “I feel like I’m on top of the world,” Proctor said upon his arrival. “I’ve just seen the most beautiful country in the world.” Proctor ran through 12 pairs of shoes and consumed 9,000 calories per day. “Cinnamon buns and scones, I’m still not sick of it,” he said. Achieving his “lifelong dream” came on his second attempt; in 2018, he succumbed to a back injury after 32 days of hitting the pavement.
