BG’s Positively Speaking
Being Disciplined
We have all heard the idiom, “Like a Bull in a China shop.”. It describes someone who enters into something totally unprepared to handle the situation. They fling themselves into the centre of whatever it is. Creating havoc, confusion and often destruction. Then they leave others to pick up the pieces, clean up the mess and solve an even bigger problem than before their intervention.
People who behave like this are ‘undisciplined.’ They have little, if any, concern for others or their feelings. Not only are they self-centred, but they are also rarely, very rarely, successful people.
A primary characteristic of successful people is “Discipline,” particularly “Self-Discipline.”
They need that discipline:
- to keep their emotions under control.
- to remain calm when things go wrong.
- to retain control of the situations they face.
- to not seek to blame someone for what has gone wrong.
- to be able to focus on solutions.
It also requires discipline to learn and retain the information needed to become disciplined and successful. So often, on our way to becoming successful, we are called on to do things we don’t want to do, but they are things we must do. That is when our discipline meets its most vigorous test. Putting this principle into practice will make us feel happier and more content. Probably because we feel more in control.
In the end, discipline strengthens our character. Our character determines our success as a professional or someone who cares for those around us.
Discipline yourself to be the person you can ultimately become

The Blinking Light
On a recent flight, an older woman kept peering out the window. Since it was dark, she could only see the blinking wing-tip light. So finally, she rang for the flight attendant. “I’m sorry to bother you,” she said, “but I think you should inform the pilot that his left-turn indicator is on and has been for some time.”

Whatever Happened To …..?
Ronald McDonald (The friendly clown): There was a time when Mcdonald’s had a stable full of characters headed by Ronald McDonald. Their purpose, along with the playgrounds at many locations, was to attract families to Mcdonald’s restaurants. Ronald was created in the early 1960s to help the chain sell hamburgers. New characters joined Ronald in the fictional community of McDonaldland, and from 1970 through the 1990s, the gang appeared in TV commercials, videos, and even a comic book.
Mcdonald’s had what was probably one of the most successful marketing campaigns ever. They were now entrenched as a place to take the kids. However, times and the marketplace were changing, and Mcdonald’s wanted to focus on the adult market. Attitudes were also evolving. There was controversy over promoting fast food that leads to obesity. In the information age, we have become more informed. At Mcdonald’s, they decided to wind down the children’s characters, slowly retiring them. After 50 years as the face of the hamburger chain, the clock was also ticking for Ronald McDonald.
In August 2016, the “creepy clown” scare set in across N. America. Scary encounters were reported in many locations, some innocent pranks, others more menacing. Nevertheless, children were reportedly frightened at the sight of a clown. A lobby group had long requested that Ronald and other clown images that scared some kids be retired. So by the end of 2016, Ronald McDonald was officially retired. His name lives on as part of the Ronald McDonald Charities.

A Deep Conversation
Murphy and O’Toole were on their way home from a funeral. In keeping with the mood of the day, they were discussing the uncertainties of life. “sure I’d give all I have to know where I was going to die.” said Murphy. “And what good would that do you?” asked O’Toole. “Well, one thing for sure, I wouldn’t be going any where the place, ever.” said Murphy
