BG’s Positively Speaking
What’s Next?
I have previously written about”What do successful people do?” in which I suggested that ‘All successful people READ.’ In another message, I recommended books I found helpful in my personal growth (including my book, “Positively Speaking”).
Another activity that successful people do is attend seminars. Seminars allow you to associate with people who are cultivating the mindset for success. You learn from those who have the knowledge and expose yourself to positive, moving-ahead people.
Over the years, I have attended 1000+ seminars. Travelling to locations across North America, I have been taught and mentored by some of the best teachers, motivators and leadership experts. I once had the privilege of attending a Tele-seminar featuring the world’s top leadership and personal growth teacher, John C. Maxwell. The seminar highlighted John and 2 other top-line speakers. This seminar ranked among some of the best I have attended, with the added bonus that it was held close to home in Huntsville.
Not everyone has the flexibility to travel for a seminar, but you don’t have to. Unlike when I started my journey, there are lots of personal growth seminars available online on YouTube. Also, many speakers hold free online workshops, in conjunction with their websites, for followers and subscribers. An added benefit, often offered, is that, if you cannot attend, they may send a link so that you can see a replay of the seminar in your own time. If the opportunity arises to attend a live workshop, I recommend it; there is nothing better than being with a group travelling on the same journey as you.

Two Mongooses?
A zookeeper is ordering new animals. Filling out the forms, the zookeeper types “two mongeese.” That doesn’t look right, so he tries two mongooses and then two mongeeses. Giving up, he types, “One mongoose, and while you’re at it, send another one.”

Family Quarrel
A young couple drove several miles down a country road, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument, and neither wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules and pigs, the husband sarcastically asked, “Are they relatives of yours?” “Yes,” his wife replied. “I married into the family.”

Skydiving
The skydiving instructor was going through the question-and-answer period with his new students when one of them asked the usual question: “If our chute doesn’t open and the reserve doesn’t open, how long would we have till we hit the ground?”
The jump master looked at him and, in perfect deadpan, answered: “The rest of your life.”
The Great Escape
There’s a mystery that remains unsolved at the Paris Zoo. “We still don’t know how the baboons escaped,” the zoo’s Twitter account proclaimed. A group of 50 baboons escaped from their enclosure on January 26, and zoo staff continue to be perplexed about how they escaped. It was 6:45 p.m. that evening, and zoo staff still needed to capture three holdouts out of the 50 baboons – two females and a baby. Staff drew diagrams and planned their offensive, waiting all night to capture the wanderlusting baboons. The zoo was shut down, and teams of vets and keepers armed with tranquillizer darts brought all the animals back to their enclosure without any being hurt (save being shot by a tranquillizer).
At The Academy Awards
The so-called “Big Five” awards are those for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay (Best Original or Best Adapted Screenplay). As of the 94th Academy Awards (2021), 43 films have been nominated in all five award categories. Only three films have won all five of these major awards: It Happened One Night (1934), One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest (1975), and Silence of The Lambs (1991). After being nominated, eight films failed to win any of the five major awards. While Everything, Everywhere, All at Once won the most “above-the-line” awards (includes Supporting Actor/Actress), with six.
Cruise Control
My family has a tradition of naming the cruise control on our cars. We were used to hearing my father proclaim, “Take it, Max,” as he flipped on the cruise control during long trips in our station wagon. Recently, I was travelling with my parents in their new car when we hit a wide-open expanse of highway. My dad leaned back and said, “I’ll let Tom drive for a while.”
“Tom who?” I asked. My mother translated for me: “Tom Cruise, of course.”
Scottish Grit
A fleet of salt trucks in Scotland is known as “gritters.” They’re not much different from trucks in Canada – they plow and salt roads. Almost every nook and cranny of Scotland is de-iced, and the progress of the nearly 100 eight-wheeler winter vehicles is tracked with the help of a handy dandy online map that’s updated in real-time. Here’s the fun part: if you look really closely at the map, it reveals some of the names of the trucks, such as Gritty Gritty Bang Bang, Ice Buster, Ice Destroyer, Sir Salter Scott, Sir Andy Flurry, and Sir Grits-a-Lot.
